Chester Creek Bridge Design

Anchorage, Alaska

chester1.jpg

University of Alaska Anchorage retained RPKA to provide survey, geotechnical investigation, and design services for this timber pedestrian bridge. Weak subsurface soils and flood levels dictated concrete abutments with driven steel piles. Since the structure is located in wetlands, design features mitigating environmental impacts were considered and included in the design. In a later contract, RPKA was retained to perform construction inspection and demolition of the existing bridge, pile drilling, abutment concrete work, and inspection of the superstructure which was constructed off site, transported and placed by crane at the site. RPKA also provided soil and concrete testing.
