Southeast Alaska Bridge Inspections

Craig and Kake Alaska

RPKA provided inspection services for 13 bridges to determine if they qualified for inclusion in BIA’s bridge inventory list. Structures included log stringer bridges constructed from local materials, a glue-laminated timber bridge, and steel box girder bridges up to 80 feet long. Detailed initial inspections were performed on nine bridges by a licensed engineer / certified bridge inspector. We computed safe load capacity for each bridge, taking into account corrosion and extensive decay found in some structures. Final reports were submitted both in paper form to the BIA Alaska Regional Office and entered electronically into the BIA Bridge Management System database in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
